San Francisco-based Studio SHK was founded by Sherry Hope-Kennedy. Her team strives to deliver the highest level of service coupled with creative design that evokes a sense of energy and playfulness. Their work bridges the demands of artistic exploration, environmental and social responsibility, and financial considerations. Their approach is client and site specific, and questions conventional assumptions.

Sherry and her team seek to explore an inherent sense of place and identity in each project. The individual character of each project emerges through insightful spatial relationships, material richness, and exacting detail. A collaborative process with clients, consultants, fabricators, and builders allows an open and inspired exploration of the design process leading to the creation of harmonious spaces.

Sherry has an MFA in interior architecture and design and is a member of IIDA, ASID, and San Francisco Design Center. In 2015, she was awarded theASID CA North Design Excellence Award for Best Interiors under 3,000 sq. ft. and the ASID CA North Design Excellence Award Best Showcase Design. Her work has been covered in California Homes, Design Bureau and Houzz.

Rope is not just for Boating

Studio SHK has a new obsession with rope and its flexible functions. From the runway to lighting, rope is finding its way into interior design word. Its innovative journey from being useful to desirable is definitely based on imagination.

Fog City Art + Design

Last Sunday Studio SHK attended the Fog City Design + Art Fair at Fort Mason.  The fair showcased cutting edge design from some favorite artists represented by galleries such as Future Perfect (http://www.thefutureperfect.com)

A standout at the fair was Benjamin Rollins Caldwell’s Binary Room. Benjamin completely transforms objects from their original purpose into something new and innovative.

Apparently, Mr. Caldwell’s work has also attracted the attention of notable celebrities.  When our design intern, Foster learned Lady Gaga used Benjamin’s work to help to launch her new album he had to sit in the same chair she did.
