Design inspiration from top interior design firm, Studio SHK

Chicago-bound

Earlier this week Sherry was in Chicago. She spent a day at the Monogram Design Center with the GE Monogram team, Sheri, Mackenzie, and chef Jon, where she learned about their new appliances and tested out kitchens. While at the Merchandise Mart, she visited other showrooms, scouting for products and design finds. In between stops, she took in the city’s grand architecture and visited The Art Institute of Chicago where she discovered inspiring new art. Art, architecture and design!

Part II: The Sahara Desert

From Europe, Sherry traveled to Morocco for more design inspiration and adventure. She visited the YSL Museum and Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech, followed by a stay in the Sahara Desert. In addition, she visited some of the women behind Berber rug weaving. In the Atlas Mountains, she learned firsthand about the craft of Moroccan rug making — an ancient tradition, done by hand. Every rug tells a story.

Part I: Milan Design Week

Sherry traveled to Italy for Salone de Mobile last month. She found design inspiration everywhere! She visited several modern showrooms and attended openings and installations. Some of her favorite discoveries: Studiopepe’s standout installation (more like an experience), which was held at a former gold manufacturing site, and this green-mirrored wall piece. After Milan, she headed to Venice, taking in the sites. She was inspired but the tranquility and earthiness of Punta della Dogana contemporary museum, which was restored by Tadao Ando, the winding canals, and the sea of colorful Murano glass.

New York Part II: Gallery Openings and Atelier Visits

New York Part II: It wasn’t all work and no play! Sherry took a few days to explore New York’s art scene. She gallery-hopped, attended a few openings and visited ateliers, finding inspiration for her current residential projects. Pictured here are pieces from the Carpenters Workshop Gallery including marble and glasswork by Vincenzo De Cotiis and the David/Nicolas Supernova Collection (shown in slide show).

The event explored timely design topics geared at helping students get ready for their first professional positions. The event also attracted ASID chapter presidents, who met and learned from each other. Pictured with Sherry are the other ASID west coast presidents. Celebrating San Francisco Fashion and Design

In the spirut of #NYFW we’re celebrating some of San Francisco's festive fashion. Last month, Sherry attended Fog Design + Art opening gala wearing a stunning lavender Grecian dress. And for the ASID Northern California holiday costume party, Sherry won best dressed for her crystal studded outfit. From art fairs to runways to home decor — pattern, color and streamlined silhouettes will dominate this year’s residential interior design schemes.

Incorporating Pantone Color of the Year in Residential Design

Does the number 16-1548 mean anything to you? It’s the Pantone 2019 Color of the Year, Living Coral, a warm and subtle shade of orange with golden undertones. We embraced this color for our Great Exploration Kid’s Bedroom — using Calico Aurora wallpaper and emphasizing the calming tone with a Kyle Bunting hide rug patterned in darker hues. We dabbled with its color wheel neighbor for a client’s master bedroom. And in 2019, we’ll be on the hunt for new ways to use this vibrant hue in our residential interior design projects.

The San Francisco Fall Art & Antiques Show

The team at Studio SHK attended the annual San Francisco Fall Art & Antiques Show Opening Night Preview Gala last week. Definitely one of the best parties in town! The guests were as fashionable as the art. And some of the arts and antiques would fit perfectly into our interior design projects and residential remodels.

San Francisco-based Studio SHK was founded by Sherry Hope-Kennedy. Her team strives to deliver the highest level of service coupled with creative design that evokes a sense of energy and playfulness. Their work bridges the demands of artistic exploration, environmental and social responsibility, and financial considerations. Their approach is client and site specific, and questions conventional assumptions.

Sherry and her team seek to explore an inherent sense of place and identity in each project. The individual character of each project emerges through insightful spatial relationships, material richness, and exacting detail. A collaborative process with clients, consultants, fabricators, and builders allows an open and inspired exploration of the design process leading to the creation of harmonious spaces.

Sherry has an MFA in interior architecture and design and is a member of IIDA, ASID, and San Francisco Design Center. In 2015, she was awarded theASID CA North Design Excellence Award for Best Interiors under 3,000 sq. ft. and the ASID CA North Design Excellence Award Best Showcase Design. Her work has been covered in California Homes, Design Bureau and Houzz.
